Description
Mia Mélange, an innovative company from South Africa run by women, more than impressed me with the "Loadshedding Planter".
Loadshedding means something like load shedding. Let's be honest, I also sat in front of my iPad with a furrowed brow when I heard this term and had to go to Google Translator for the first time - it was then called loadshedding. My forehead is still furrowed but accompanied by a "Huh? After a short search, it became clear what this referred to - load shedding is a way of distributing the demand for electrical energy across several energy sources. This happens in particular when the electricity grid utilisation is exceeded. However, the scarcity of resources does not prevent the company from remaining creative! Mia Melange is particularly focussed on the production of these great cachepots, because they don't need any electricity to make them! Cool, isn't it?
But that's not all - during loadshedding, the pots can be woven while sitting outside and enjoying the sun. Thanks to the Loadshedding collection, Mia Mélange has been able to create extra work for the women in her community! You go girl!
This cylindrical basket is ideal as a plant holder for houseplants. But this loadshedding basket also works really well as a basket for any objects. Stylish storage of various objects such as towels, toilet rolls, dog toys or hair appliances is of course also possible.
These hand-woven products are made from 100% cotton rope. The cotton is grown in South Africa by farmers who are members of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI). I love that!
The Mia Mélange Loadshedding collection is handmade in Stellenbosch.
P.S The plants in the picture are not included, but you are sure to find something suitable for you in the plants section;)!
